GRACE

GRACE   “With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus and MUCH GRACE was with them all” (Acts4 : 33).   “From Attalia they sailed back to Antioch where they had been  COMMITTED TO THE GRACE OF GOD  for the work they had now completed” (Acts14 : 26). Why was the grace of God so important in the experience of the early Christians? Why did the church in Antioch pray that the GRACE of God would be upon Paul and Barnabas and later on Paul and Silas, as they set out on their missionary journeys?   A. THE MEANING OF GRACE   The most common understanding of the word “grace” is “God’s unmerited favor” in other words, even though we were sinners deserving of judgement God looked upon us in And forgave us.   This however is only half its meaning. It also means “God enabling power”. “May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God  our Father who loved us and by ...

Jesus is the Word of God

Jesus  is  the  Word  of God "What do John 1:1,14 mean when they declare that Jesus is the Word of God?" The answer to this question is found by first understanding the reason why John wrote his gospel. We find his purpose clearly stated in John 20:30-31.  “Many other signs therefore Jesus also performed in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these have been written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name.”  Once we understand that John’s purpose was to introduce the readers of his gospel to Jesus Christ, establishing Who Jesus is (God in the flesh) and what He did, all with the sole aim of leading them to embrace the saving work of Christ in faith, we will be better able to understand why John introduces Jesus as “The Word” in John 1:1. By starting out his gospel stating, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with...

Cottage - Heavy Voltage

We run family retreats but we neglect family prayers, as preachers we give much time for public meetings but we have no time for private meetings with God. We are interested in huge numbers and love to preach at huge gatherings but forsake small gatherings. We have time for crusade meetings but no time for cottage meetings, we preach in prayer conferences but not in prayer cells, where only two or three gather  (Where Christ is present). We may be busy with huge meetings but let us also give time for small meetings. We may always stand before thousands of people yet let us also sit before individuals to care and counsel. As pastors, preachers and gospel workers let us not neglect small meetings, prayer cells, cottage meetings and personal evangelism. Remember  John Wesley  who shook England with his message was converted not in a public meeting where a World famous preacher preached but in a small mid week prayer meeting when a common preacher read...

Where is Your Heart today, O Chosen One?

Where is Your Heart today, O Chosen One? On seeing the  gold  idols of nations  Why  didn’t your  heart  burn like  Moses ? On seeing  wickedness  of self  Why  didn’t your  heart  weep like  David ? On seeing the  fall  of friends  Why  didn’t your  heart  break like  Jesus ? On seeing the  helplessness  of the lost  Why  didn’t your heart  move  like the  Father ? Oh! Where are you men of God?  Where is your heart today, O Chosen One?

The Obedience of Sister Chang

The  Obedience  of Sister  Chang "Go and Preach outside the Police Station" When God spoke to Sister Chang, a house church leader from Henan, He told her to do something that made no earthly sense at all.  He told her to go and preach the gospel on the steps outside the local police station. The reason I wrote to you was to see if you would stand the test and be obedient in everything.”  2 Corinthians 2:9 Such an action may lead to arrest even in Western nations and in  Communist China  it is a sure way to invite severe punishment. But the more Sister Chang prayed about it, the more clearly the inner voice of God continued to tell her to do it. Finally, she saw no option but to obey God. Bold  Proclamation Standing on the top step outside the police station, she boldly preached the Gospel to astonished onlookers. Within a few minutes several officers dragged her inside and placed her under arrest. To the...

Keep Running

K ee p Ru nn ing ''...Let us run...the race marked out for us.'' Hebrews 12:1 Look what Jesus endured:   1) Temptation.   We imagine the wilderness temptation as three isolated events scattered over a forty-day period.   No:  'The devil tempted Jesus for forty days...' (Luke 4:2 NCV).   Every step, whispering in His ear; every turn of the path, sowing doubt; forty days of non-stop temptation!   When it was over Satan would flee, angels would come and strengthen Him, and He would leave the wilderness to go out and minister as no one ever has. But first He had to get through the temptation. So do you.   And the good news is, strengthened by God's grace, you can. 2) Accusation .    '...Some said, "He is a good man."   Others replied, "No, he deceives the people' ' (John 7:12 NIV).   'The Jews then said, "That clinches it. We were right all along when we...said you were...

The True Worship

"What is true worship?" The Apostle Paul described true worship perfectly in Romans 12:1-2: “I urge you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God which is your spiritual service of worship. And do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable, or well pleasing and perfect.”  First, there is the motivation to worship: “the mercies of God.” God’s mercies are everything He has given us that we don’t deserve: Eternal love, eternal grace, the Holy Spirit, everlasting peace, eternal joy, saving faith, comfort, strength, wisdom, hope, patience, kindness, honor, glory, righteousness, security, eternal life, forgiveness, reconciliation, justification, sanctification, freedom, intercession and much more. The knowledge and understanding of these incredible gifts motivate us to pou...

Different kinds of Pride

1. It is called the “ I am Special ” pride! Symptoms: You get offended, when your name is not mentioned in the address book of a thank you mail! You may not display it though! You wouldn’t completely accept apologies of errors by others! Take for example, someone accidentally spills coffee over you. He apologizes to you. He may even offer to buy you another shirt. But deep inside your heart, you are still so upset! You would rather wait for someone to greet you first (especially your subordinates/associates). Till that time you are busy ignoring the other person! You expect personal invitation at all invites failing which you’d rather choose not to attend – even if it’s a good friend’s celebration. Incase someone missed you in their invite list, for whatever reason, you begin to brood over it and never quite get over it. You seem to get offended at the slightest gesture of casualness by a new friend or a family relative and even give it back at times!! 2. It is called...
