Discipline yourself for the purpose of godliness; for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come. 1 Timothy 4:7-8


At the time, discipline isn't much fun. It always feels like it's going against the grain. Later, of course, it pays off handsomely, for it's the well-trained who find themselves mature in their relationship with God.

They are the PATH to godliness
Spiritual disciplines allow us to place ourselves before God so he can transform us.
God EXPECTS them of us

“when you fast”, “when you pray”, “train yourself in godliness”
