Revelation: Unlocking the Future

Text: Revelation 1:1-8

Intro:
The book of Revelation is the most fascinating book ever written! It claims to be a vision of the end of the world.
As we study it we will be swept in another time and another place as the future unfolds before us! Every one of us is curious about the future-we all want to know what will happen next.
As we study the book, it is my goal to help simplify the message of Revelation so that you can easily understand it for yourself.
The term “revelation” means to “unveil” or “uncover” that which was previously hidden.
In this study Revelation is broken down into three major sections:
Past: “the things which you have seen” (Chapter 1)
Present: “the things which are” (Chapters 2-3)
Future: “the things which shall take place after these things”
(Chapters 4-22)
The Vital Statistics of Revelation
Purpose: To reveal the full identity of Christ and to give warning and hope to believers.
Author: Apostle John
Date: 95 AD
Key Verse: “God blesses the one who reads this prophecy to the church, and He blesses all who listen to it and obey what it says. For the time is near when these things will happen.”
Rev. 1:3 NLT
1:1 This is a revelation from Jesus Christ, which God gave him concerning the events that will happen soon.
An angel was sent to God's servant John so that John could share the revelation with God's other servants.
The book of Revelation was recorded to show us
(God's servants) that which will happen soon! This info was once hidden but is now revealed!
The phrase “events that will happen soon” may seem strange to us because we live in a fast-paced world of fast food restaurants and microwaves. After all 1900 years have passed since John wrote these words!  But you must recall
2 Peter 3:8 “A day is like a thousand years to the Lord, and a thousand years is like a day.”
God is timeless. In God's eyes the future is just around the corner!
Notice the source of the revelation. It did not originate with John.
